Core Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough evaluations of machine learning papers, focusing on their methodological integrity, originality, and clarity.
• Examine Python source code and experimental logs to ensure the accuracy of reported metrics against the underlying data.
• Perform comprehensive literature reviews using platforms like Google Scholar or Semantic Scholar to identify prior research, detect plagiarism, and evaluate the originality of submissions.
• Deliver structured feedback on assessments of research quality, highlighting any ethical or safety-related concerns.
• Provide non-identifying background information, such as affiliation, highest degree, and publication links, to establish credibility for the study.

Required Expertise

• A robust academic or professional foundation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or related research fields.
• Proficiency in interpreting and analyzing machine learning papers, with a preference for familiarity with top-tier conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML).
• Ability to read and assess Python code, experimental workflows, and quantitative logs.
• Experience with academic literature review tools and methodologies.
• Doctoral students, industry researchers, and published authors are particularly encouraged to apply.
• Keen attention to detail and the ability to critically evaluate complex technical arguments.

Project & Compensation

• This role involves supporting a study focused on the evaluation of modern machine learning research.
• The engagement is a short-term, flexible contract, suitable for technically proficient AI researchers and practitioners.
• Compensation is offered at a rate of $105 per hour, with payments issued regularly based on completed work via Mercor’s platform.
• The start date for this role is immediate.
